Quick answer
- A product's reference price is only one part of your budget.
- Compare the same parcel, dimensions and destination across routes.
- Published rehearsal fees differ; confirm the live charge.
Two people can buy similarly priced products and receive very different shipping quotes. Comparing only the item price or the number of pieces leaves out much of the parcel information needed to understand the difference.
Know which weight you are comparing
Distinguish the submitted estimate from measurements after packing. Packaging choices can change the parcel, and a logistics provider may adjust its billing weight.
Ask for the packed weight, outer dimensions and the named route. Comparing a quote for loose items with one for the completed box will not necessarily reveal an error: they may describe different parcels.
Keep a screenshot of the quote together with its date, currency and included services. When a price changes, request the corresponding measurement or service change rather than relying on the old headline total alone.
Understand volumetric weight with one example
Some routes charge on the greater of physical and volumetric weight. Different providers use different dimensional divisors; there is no single divisor to apply to every route.
Illustrative calculation, not a shipping quote: suppose a route uses a divisor of 6,000 and your box measures 40 × 30 × 25 cm.
- The volume calculation is
40 × 30 × 25 ÷ 6,000 = 5 kg. - If physical weight is 3 kg and this route uses the greater value, the comparison starts from 5 kg.
- Route rounding, minimum charges and other terms still need checking.
Use the divisor shown for your actual route. Removing a box or choosing another packing method can change the dimensions, but compare the saving with the protection the item needs.
Use our parcel-packaging checklist to make those instructions specific. If stored items cannot share a route, work through the consolidation checklist before comparing a split shipment.
What rehearsal packing can clarify
Rehearsal is a paid packing review that updates parcel weight and freight information for the chosen method. It is useful when an uncertain box size matters to your budget. It does not establish a future delivery date.
Confirm the current service fee: on 22 October 2026, published rehearsal-fee descriptions differed between CNY 20 and USD 3 per parcel. We have not resolved the difference. Check the live fee and currency before authorising the service; do not treat either figure here as a current quote.
Build a budget you can compare
Use this editorial worksheet for each route offered to your destination.
| Budget line | What to record |
|---|---|
| Goods | Current item price, quantity and currency |
| Domestic delivery | Seller-to-warehouse charge |
| Optional services | Photos, packing, rehearsal or protection you selected |
| International freight | Route name, packed measurements and billing basis |
| Destination charges | What is included, excluded or still unknown |
Your total can include costs beyond the agent service. Compare the complete breakdown, rather than treating a free agent-service description as a free-delivery offer.
For the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada or Australia, use the current options for that exact destination. This article provides no fixed tax threshold, guaranteed route price or “best line” for an entire country.
Questions to send with a changed quote
Please confirm the packed weight, outer dimensions, billing-weight calculation and selected route. Which packaging or optional-service charges changed from the earlier estimate? Please show the updated breakdown and its currency before I proceed.
This is a request template, not a claim that the quote is incorrect. It gives support the information needed to explain or investigate the difference.
